Does an indictment need to be stamped with a public seal? 2 Answers as of July 04, 2013

My boyfriend was indicted and when he finally received a copy of his indictment it was not stamped with a seal. I am very confused about this because I thought all public documents had to be stamped and sealed and all that good stuff.

Every court document must be "file stamped" so I assume that is what you are referring to. However, only the original has to be stamped. Most lawyers secure a stamped copy of filings for our clients and our own files so that we can easily look up when and if the document was actually filed.
