Do I qualify for the Unfair Dismissal Act? 1 Answers as of September 18, 2014

I have just been fired because I damaged the front bumper of my work truck. The damage was accidental and the truck is still drivable. The reason my boss gave me is that I am being fired is because this accident happen during probationary period. The thing is in all the paper work I’ve signed for being hired here, there was never anything in writing about the probationary period. Nothing I’ve signed stated anything about a probationary period and according to the employee handbook (which supersedes everything except "duly authorized employment agreements"). I am responsible for any damage to the truck and only able to be dismissed if I am no longer eligible to be insured by the company insurance. So am I protected under unfair dismissal or should I get started finding a new job.
