Do I need a lawyer to become an administrator of estate? Posted on July 28, 2011

I am trying to become an administrator of estate for my cousin who lived with me when he died. His son signed a waiver for qualification for me to become administrator. When I went to get bonded the court suggested we do VIRGINIA SMALL ESTATE ACT AFFIDAVIT. The son lives in another state and is hard to get in touch with. The estate is a $25,000 life insurance with $7,000 going to the insurance company. I was wondering if I should get a lawyer to help me to become an administrator.
