Do I have to pay for property that was co-owned? Posted on July 19, 2011

While living in Brooklyn, NY, my 25 year old daughter was involved with a man of reputable character. He had a friend that asked my daughter to sign on a lease for a 2010 Audi vehicle. My daughter unwisely agreed to do it without understanding all legal consequences. She did write up an informal contract stating that the young man was responsible for payments and had it notarized by notary public. The young man stopped making payments and the vehicle was seized by Audi. Audi now informs my daughter that she is responsible for $9000. Is there anything that she can do at this point? She cannot make payments. This happened in New York, but daughter now resides in Illinois.
