Do I have to get a drug crime expunged to join the military? 4 Answers as of August 03, 2010
I was arrested for drug possession about 8 months ago but have been sober ever since and completed a residential treatment program. I cleared all the charges and paid all the fees. Should I try to get those past issues expunged if I want to join the military? Is it worth the money or are they going to find out anyway?Free Case Evaluation by a Local Lawyer!

Expungement will help you in future employment, and is probably required for you to join the military. If serious about pursuing this, feel free to contact me for legal help.

A lot depends on the program you went through and whether it was sentence as a misdemeanor or a felony. Contact me and we can see what we can do for you.

I would ask you recruiter. You are allowed a one time "waiver" for certain crimes and then allowed to go into military. You must be truthful and disclose your arrests and convictions anyway, but drug possession crimes can be erased one time only in California under Proposition 36- that's better than an expungment- however you must go to court one year after the conviction and affirmatively request that the charges be dismissed- again, this is better than an expungment.
