Do I have to file a police report if I totaled my car? 1 Answers as of June 27, 2011

I wrecked my car and hit a tree. My car was totaled but we had a tow truck come and get it and then I came home. It wasn't on anyone's property and didn't involve anybody else. Do I have to make a police report and if so will I be in some kind of trouble?

I guess I would want to know whether you still owe money on the car and whether you have comprehensive coverage. If so, you may need a police report to explain the damage to the insurance company. But, if the car was all paid off and you don't have comprehensive coverage then it would probably be pointless to get a police report.
