Do I have the right to see a video of me stealing? 1 Answers as of July 22, 2011

I was accused at stealing from a store (honestly a complete accident, was distracted with my phone and walked out holding one small piece of merchandise I forgot was in my hand). They say they have video of me taking it. Do I have the right to see that video?

Absolutely! You have the right to see any and all evidence that the State will use against you. You also have the right to see any evidence that is "exculpatory", meaning evidence that tends to suggest that you are innocent or less guilty in other ways. So, in one way or another, you have the right to see that film.
