Do I have recourse after being billed by insurance? Posted on May 26, 2011

I went to a pain doctor who prior to the appointment stated they were on my insurance plan. The day of the first appointment, I gave them my insurance card. they rushed to do the first of 6 procedures on my back and stated they spoke to my insurance to get approval for how many levels of dics they could do that night and each time. After doing all the procedures they then tell me they can't treat me anymore as they are not on my plan and that they assumed I had out of network coverage. The doctor that day said that due to their handling, that they would have to "eat the bill". Now 6 months later they are billing me for $11k for the procedures. Do I have any recourse since they had implied they had approval for the procedures?
