Do I have any ownership of case files? Posted on March 08, 2011

I was a private contracted behavior analyst. I worked under another persons MFT (masters family therapy) license. I get a 1099. I just recently resigned my position. I served clients, wrote reports, and kept files on these clients. I wrote and sent my reports to the MFT whose license I worked under as well as to the agencies that hired the work. The MFT has requested that I turn over all of my files as well. Am I obligated to have to turn over my files to the MFT? I do need to keep them for 5 years, but does the MFT have a right to my personal notes on the cases that I served as a private contractor? Thank you for your response.
