Can you file for an extension to respond to summary judgement in federal court? Posted on July 18, 2011

Can you file for an extension to respond to summary judgment in federal court? If so, how do I do this? I am a pro se (plaintiff) with case against USPS. I was served on 7/8/11 and have to respond by 7/21/11. I have been desperately seeking a lawyer to help. I don't know how to do this on my own. Also, if I have a ECF account, can there be something done on there so I don't have to go to S.F. or mail papers?
