In Illinois, a DUI which occurs at a time when your license was not valid is a felony offense. It does not matter whether you knew or didn't know that your license was valid.

If arrested for DUI while your license is suspended or revoked, will result in felony Aggravated DUI charges being issued. Same goes for DUI without a valid driver's license or without liability insurance. Penalties could be as much as 1-3 years in prison, so if so charged, hire a good defense attorney.
