Can we refuse to pay the rent until our landlord repairs the damages in our home? Posted on July 18, 2011

The townhouse we are currently renting has a bad roof, it has leaked since the first month we moved in. Our landlord has sent people to fix it a few times, but it still leaks. The leaking has caused damaged to the drywall and mold. He has promised to send someone out to fix it, but hasn't yet. It's been two months. He also has demolished the sidewalk in front of our house, in order to pour a new sidewalk. It has been over a month now that we have nothing but gravel and yellow caution tape in front of our home. He promised us new windows when we moved in since the windows we have now are cracked and don't stay open. We haven't gotten any...nor have we gotten the promised a/c. We are fed up with the empty promises and want our rental to be a comfortable, suitable place to live. Can we stop paying rent until theses changes are made?
