You do not have to speak to the other party in a divorce if you have an attorney acting on your behalf. If you appear at a court hearing, you will speak to the judge. I have handled many divorces where I represent one party, and the other is unrepresented. I then walk them through the process without any group meeting or court hearing.

If you hire counsel, your attorney can speak for you. However, if you are both representing yourself, it will be impossible to go through a divorce and never be in the same room.
