Can SSI disability be garnished? 1 Answers as of February 20, 2012

Our dog bit our neighbor after she was asked to come into house twice and refused. The dog had already circled her golf cart barking aggressively. She had to go to a wound center. Now, she has an attorney. We got a letter stating he was representing her and to give it to our insurance company. We did not have insurance at that time. My husband is on SSI disability. I am cleaning houses to help pay bills. We receive foodstamps and and have to go to the food bank for food. We have a car, trailer, and 2 acres of land. He had frontal lobe damage due to being on life support. We cannot afford an attorney. Please any information will be greatly appreciated.
