Can my husband sign something renouncing his entitlement to half my postal retirement? Posted on February 18, 2011

I work for the post office. It is my understanding that because I have been married over ten years, my husband is entitled to half my retirement. He never bothered putting anything away for retirement because he expects to inherit a lot of money. If I divorce him before he receives his inheritance I am not guaranteed a cent. Is there a way he can sign something renouncing his entitlement to my retirement? Potentially I may be forced to live on half my retirement while he receives half my retirement and all his inheritance. I don't care if I get any of his inheritance. Considering the circumstances, I would like to have all of my retirement guaranteed.
