He pled third degree assault and was sentenced to 48 hours community service and 1 year probation. Now can't get a job.

Hello- Misdemeanor assault convictions cannot be expunged in Colorado, unless the plea agreement was for a "deferred judgment." Conceivably, a sitting governor can grant a pardon for the conviction, which effectively eliminates it.
