Can a landlord hold property as collateral for damages caused by a renter? Posted on July 28, 2011I have a friend who took in a boarder for free as a favor without a written contract. The boarder created some damages in the house, but has mostly departed the property. However, the boarder left some belongings. Can these belongings be held as collateral until the damages are repaired?
