Can I still own a firearm if I have been convicted of domestic violence? 3 Answers as of November 15, 2012

This is the first time I have been in trouble with the law. I heard a rumor that i can no longer own a firearm because of this conviction but its not a felony. The courts never told me i couldn't own one after probation. When i asked my probation officer he said he did not know and to contact an attorney.

If you have a domestic assault conviction then they will not let you buy a gun if the conviction is recent.

As it is only a misdemeanor and if there is no PPO you should be eligible, especially if the case was dismissed after successful completion of probation under the domestic violence statute.
