Can I own a gun with a dismissed felony? 2 Answers as of February 14, 2014

I am 21 years old and I was arrested almost a year ago on felony drug possession charges (age 20). I went through a pretrial diversion program (3 months) to have the charges dismissed and my arrest record expunged. I recently went to buy a firearm and was denied. I have been told it might because they do not have updated information on the outcome of my case. I'm just wondering if I am eligible to own a gun and if not what I need to do to have my right reinstated.

It depends on what you mean by dismissed and expunged. We have no true expungement in this state, so if what you mean is that you received a 1203.4 dismissal claimed by some to be expungement, then the answer is no it does not restore your gun rights. If you received a true dismissal, under 1385, it would restore your gun rights.
