Can I legally be fired for a management step down? 1 Answers as of May 26, 2011

I am a manager for a restaurant. I'm a college student too. They want me to be committed to 40 hours a week and they don't pay much per hour. I also get calls all the time on my day off and I'm required to do some things off the clock. I have just been accepted to a four year university and can not longer work 40 hours. I'd like to step down my management title and just serve a few days a week. Can they fire me for that? There are time that people have tried to change their availability and their response was we didn't hire you for that.

In Florida you can be terminated for no reason, without warning, at any time. Accordingly, yes, they can terminate your employment if they want to because you are asking to be demoted.
