Can I go to jail for recording someone without their knowledge? 2 Answers as of August 18, 2011

I put up a video camera in my 18 year old daughters bedroom to catch her singing and dancing as she is doing her hair. She found that camera and took it to the police. They called me in for questioning, and say they are sending it to the county attorney. Did I break the law, and if so, what could the outcome be?

There is a difference between recording someone making a statement and also where the recording was done is also critical. video recording some ones private moment is an act akin to voyeurism and that is a serious charge.
