Can I drop my ex husband from medical coverage? 1 Answers as of August 09, 2011

My Healthcare policy has changed and allowed a domestic partner to be eligible for coverage under me. We have bank accounts and property together. I have a will leaves my house and belongings to him as well as to make decisions if I cannot. Can I drop my x-husband from my medical coverage? My divorce decree just states that he can remain under the health insurance act, but doesn't that act change due to the recent RI law involving same sex marriages?

Unless your company's policy is one of those exempt from "the act," you will likely be obliged to comport with the court's order. Consult with a family court attorney and ask them to investigate the particulars of your situation/employer status.
