Can I be fired for misguided direction from my employer? Posted on February 15, 2011

I was recently brought into a Loss Prevention investigation at the company I work for. The investigation surrounds my Region Manager who gave his 7 District Managers (myself included) to not submit merchandise markdowns from our inventory. His wording later changed and he told us to submit limited markdowns but that if they were excessive, then he would ask LP to investigate that particular location. In most of the Region Manager's communication, he cc'd on the email the Director of Stores (his boss) and an LP manager.

Now LP is telling me that what was going on is wrong and is considered "cooking" the books. All we did was follow a directive from our manager. Can I be terminated for this?
