Can I be charged with grand theft if the contract for the car is in my name? 1 Answers as of April 06, 2016

My ex-roommate put the insurance in her name to save money. I moved out and now she is threatening to file the car as stolen. The car is not past due and I have all the receipts.

What kind of car contract allows you to be responsible for the vehicle, when someone else is responsible for the insurance? I suspect that there were lies that were told to the owner of the vehicle, in which case IF there is an accident, you will be responsible for the value of the vehicle, because the insurance company will be looking for a reason NOT to pay. Is owing $ 12,000 for a vehicle you do not have better than having a criminal charge.
