Can a bonding company collect on a claim without going to arbitration? Posted on July 19, 2011

I was a licensed General Contractor in the state of California. A past client filed a claim with my bonding company (where I signed an indemnity agreement) and successfully won a settlement. I closed my business and moved to Florida in the fall of 2010. I never received any forwarded mail from the bonding company giving me the opportunity to fight the claim. I finally received a copy of the settlement and check that was sent to the client. (The bonding company found my new address and sent me that as well as a copy of a bill for $9,666.00). Even though the bonding company has settled with the customer, can I still fight the claim with the bonding company?
