Can an apartment make me pay the new rent price after I signed a lease? Posted on August 10, 2011

I recently signed an apartment lease for a year worth $11,250.16 and paid my application fee. Now the apartment sent me a new lease via email stating that they made a mistake. They want me to sign the new lease for a new total of $11,940.00 and send it back to them. If I am not mistaken, a contract is a legal binding document. Can the apartment really make me pay the new rent price? Can they cancel my application if I refuse to sign the new lease agreement?
