Salaried employees must be paid overtime unless they meet the test for exempt status as defined by federal and state laws or there are specific exemptions from overtime by the California Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Orders. One exemption is the executive exemption. Among other things it requires employee to be paid a monthly salary equal to at leas twice the state minimum wage.
