Are we bound by the HOA rules if our home was there before it was formed? Posted on June 02, 2011We built a home in 1977. About 6-10 years later a HOA was formed. We have done renovations and now are getting letters to request a permit. The HOA letter wants us to sign acknowledging there may be legal fees and fines involved. I believe we are grandfathered since we were there before the HOA, and don't have to follow their guidelines.
