Am I eligible to own a firearm after 10 years since my felony conviction? 1 Answers as of January 09, 2012
I live in Kansas and have lived here for all my life other than 2 years in NC. While in NC in 1995 I received a felony for possession of marijuana. No firearms were used as was no violence. I have researched Kansas law and from my interpretation I am eligible to own a firearm since it has been over 10 years. But my confusion comes from the felony being from another state (and NC does not do expungements) and what about federal law concerning no felon with guns?Free Case Evaluation by a Local Lawyer!

Kansas law would be that you would not be charged with a crime for possessing the firearm, but under federal Law, you are still prohibited from possessing a firearm as your rights have not been restored. You would need to consult with a Federal attorney to discuss the process of restoration of your rights.
