After a distinguished career as a South King County lawyer, Michael Morgan was elected to be the City of Federal Ways first full-time judge in 2005. As a judicial candidate, Mike was endorsed for office by members of the State Supreme Court, former Governors, top lawyers, and community leaders based on his record of handling tough cases in the Puget Sound region.
Among his accomplishments as a judge, Mike identified and corrected 410 wrongful convictions, improved indigent defense services, enacted policies and procedures to better administer justice in traffic infraction cases, and helped expand juvenile justice programs in the Federal Way community. Mike made countless decisions as a judge and none of those decisions were overturned on appeal. Prior to assuming the bench as a full time judge, Mike was among a small number of lawyers deemed qualified by the Washington State Supreme Court to be lead defense counsel in Capital Murder (death penalty) cases. Besides having experience trying Murder cases, Michael Morgan has tried hundreds of difficult cases in both Superior Court and District Court. Mike has successfully defended individuals accused of such felonies as Rape, Drug offenses, property offenses, violent offenses and DNA identification cases.
