A federal judge has approved an information sharing plan in the litigation involving defective Toyota vehicles.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs and defense council for the automaker will now be able to share information, including documents and depositions, throughout the discovery process. Both sides now have a 100 day window to exchange information.
Hundreds of personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits have been filed against Toyota which may end up costing the motor company $4 billion. These hundreds of cases have been consolidated in a single Orange County, CA federal court.
Toyota recalled 8.5 million vehicles beginning in October of 2009, the largest global recall in history. Prius Hybrid, Camry, and Lexus sedans were recalled due to defective accelerator gas pedals, brake systems, and floor mats
Toyota was fined $16.4 million dollars by the US government because of the faulty vehicles.
