Ford and Chrysler Recall Over 55,000 Vehicle

Published on 07/14/2010 -

In the wake of the massive Toyota Motors recall, Ford and Chrysler have announced that they will recall more than 55,000 vehicles.

Ford is recalling 33,700 Transit Connect commercial vans that have defective head liners which fail to meet safety requirements. These vehicles were manufactured from December 2008 to this May. Dealerships will stop selling the model until the problem is fixed.

Similarly, Chrysler is recalling 22,000 SUV and Truck units including Jeep, Jeep Liberty, Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Nitro, and Ram 1500 trucks. These vehicles were manufactured between April and May of this year and have defective brake tubes.

Toyota initiated a recall of 8.5 million vehicles beginning in October of last year, the largest global recall in history. Prius Hybrid, Camry, and Lexus sedans were recalled due to faulty accelerator gas pedals, brake systems, and floor mats

Because of the defective vehicles, Toyota was fined $16.4 million dollars by the US government. They also face numerous personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits that could end up costing Toyota up to $4 billion.
