Couple Locked in International Custody Dispute

Published on 07/23/2010 -

A dramatic international child custody dispute is ongoing between a mother who wants to bring her daughter back to Arizona and a father who wants to keep their child in Bahrain.

Yazmin Maribel Bautista, a mother from Phoenix, is in a heated custody dispute with her ex-husband, Sadiq Jaffar Al-Safir, over their 5-year old daughter who was born in Arizona.

When their daughter was 2 years old, the couple separated and Al-Safir returned back to his native Bahrain. His ex-wife, Bautista, has since followed, and now wishes to leave Bahrain with their daughter.

However, a judge in Bahrain has recently ruled that the young American born girl cannot return back to the United States with her mom.

This international dispute has caught the attention of Arizona Senator John McCain, who has written a letter the to Bahraini diplomats asking for the young girl to be allowed home.

The case is expected to go before court in Bahrain although the couple, as well as diplomats for both countries, could be wrapped up in this international dispute for some time.
