Blagojevich to Take Witness Stand in His Corruption Trial

Published on 07/19/2010 -

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is expected to take the witness stand in his corruption trial this week.

Prosecutors allege that Blagojevich committed a political crime spree including conspiring to barter off the empty Senate seat of President Barack Obama.

Although the former governor is by no means required to take the witness stand, he has repeatedly voiced his intention to do so.

The defense team has also indicated that it will attempt to put many other notable witnesses on the stand including Blagojevich’s brother, sister in law, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Putting Blagojevich on the stand is a very risky move by his defense team as the former governor is known for loose lips and rambling. The defense team is presenting its side of the case this week and claims that Blagojevich had no intention of committing the crimes.
